From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. Aspects of religion include narrative, symbolism, beliefs, and practices that are supposed to give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life. Whether the meaning centers on a deity or deities, or an ultimate truth, religion is commonly identified by the practitioner's prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things, and is often interwoven with society and politics. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws and ethics and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The term "religion" refers both to the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system," but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively. Q. are teenagers[like 14 years old] allowed to choose their own religion? Like, my parents are Catholic, and they want me to make my conformation. But I dont want to be Catholic, and I dont want to lie to an entire church. Are there any laws saying that I can choose my own religion, even if my parents are agianst it? I talked to my parents and they said that I dont have ANY rights until I am 18. They also said that once I make my conformation that I can go to any church I want. But dosnt that defeat the purpose? Asked by manduhh - Tue Sep 25 17:36:58 2007 - - 10 Answers - 1 Comments A. Your religion is a personal, internal choice. Your parents have no jurisdiction over it, and the law has even less. I opted out of my parents' religion when I was 11 or younger. You're free to believe whatever you want. Religious coercion is illegal in most countries, but there's a grey area with parents and children. If I were you, I'd remind your parents that according to their own beliefs, lying in a promise to God is a sin, and so is their forcing you to lie. Answered by Comrade Abdul - Tue Sep 25 17:41:42 2007 What religion has the worst or sickest punishments or rules? Q. I am working on a speech and I was wondering if anyone knew some of the worst religious punishments and rules and what religions they are. Example: Man cuts off his wife's head because she cheated. / Woman lets her son starve because he won't say amen at dinner table. Both of these were because of their religion and the law just let them do it! So what do you have? Asked by lolita_bunny_girl - Tue Mar 31 13:30:28 2009 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments A. Q. I did some reading on my art history book and it says something about how the empires back then used to use religion to fool the people into building empires. It has to do something with beliefs and whatever. Asked by bap32211 - Sun Nov 22 17:38:46 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. That's a very crude way of putting it, but basically its correct. The purpose of all religion is to make group of people A do what group of people B want them to. Therefore, if you tell people the/a God will be happy with them if they build temples, or celebrate days, or build colliseums, they will. The Roman Empire fell because people started converting to christianity which preached polar opposite values (love, tolerance, etc) to the Roman pantheon (strength, power, dominance, honour) and became the Byzantinian Empire.
