Where did people get money for the Cao Dai Temple?
Q. I'm doing history fair and my architecture is the Cao Dai Temple. My teacher asked me to find out where the money was found for this building to be built. It's such a beautiful & detailed building, the money couldn't have just been in their pockets. How did they get the money to buy the things needed for this building?

A. That is quite a difficult question. It is indeed a beautiful building. I am guessing the french may have provided the funds? But I am not sure. In 1919 Ngo Van Chieu, an administrator for the French in Indochina, received a communication from the supreme deity during a table-moving seance. Chieu became the prophet of the new religion, which was formally established in 1926. Caodaists believe this ushered in Tam Ky Pho Do or the Third Period of Salvation, a period marked by direct revelation between heaven and earth. Caodaism is the Dai Dao or great religion of this period. The Great Temple was built between 1933 and 1955. A Cao Dai army was established in 1943 during the Japanese occupation of Indochina. After the war the Cao Dai was… [cont.]

A. Cao Dai is an attempt to create a perfect synthesis of world religions. It is a combination of Christianity, Buddhism , Islam, Confucianism, Hinduism, Geniism, and Taoism. Established in the Southern regions of Vietnam in the early 1920's, the religion was officially codified in 1926. The functioning center of Cao Daism is located in the Tay Ninh province. Cao Dai literally means high tower or palace, a metaphor for the spender of spiritual growth. The central philosophy of Cao Daism pertains to the duty that the faithful perform for themselves, their family, society and the world at large. Much like Confucianism, this element of the Philosophy pertains to how the individual functions within the context of the community.

Bahai Vs Cao Dai?
Q. Compare & contrast these 2 religions.
Asked by clusium1971 - Tue Aug 21 23:50:05 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Both are fairly new movements claiming to integrate the teachings of the major world religions. Baha'i does so in the framework of a succession of prophets (corresponding to the major religious founders) culminating in their own founder (Baha'u'llah, a 19th century Iranian), though the process is expected to continue indefinitely into the future. Its culture comes out of Persian Shi'i Islam, but the religion has grown worldwide. Several splinter groups exist, but the main body follows an elected council based in Israel. Caodai teaches that this is the beginning of the "third period of salvation" in which God (called Caodai, or "high tower") speaks to us directly (through spirit mediumship) rather than as before, through prophets and so… [cont.]

A. Atheists who think they know everything are just as bad as Christians who think they know everything. That aside, I believe (not know, but believe) religion, at it's worst, can be used to do some pretty despicable things, including controlling people. I also think religion at it's best can be a beautiful thing.

A. Tough one -- how about anyone who supports complete peace? If I had to pick on group name alone, I'd go with Amish, Buddhist, Shinto (the Japanese are pretty cool and stable today) and Wiccans. Last time I checked, Buddhists were for peace and non-violence. Check out the peaceful protests of Buddhists in Myanmar. The Wiccans are a more diverse group, but they know what it is like to be bashed by large groups of religious believers. I would definitely not trust fundamentalist anything, though.

I do tend to report it when people curse, make threats, insult the answerers, or post spam/statements that are not Q's with a question mark at the end, or give answers that dont answer the question. Case in point someone asked about the funeral beliefs of one religion, one of the responders said, my family believe in that, I hate them and will pee on their graves. In no way did that try to answer the Q. Honestly, I don't have much time, when I do feel like reporting, as I am busy answering. Thanks for having a nice sense of humor Reiguin.

A. Freddie The question is, what do you consider 'Hell" to be? Is it fire and brimstone as some would have us believe? Is it an afterlife of eternal wandering in a dense fog, seeing no one? Or is it a state of mind, known only to those of us still earthbound in an unreal reality? Does it matter what religion we are, or even if we are religious? Religion and spirituality can be two separate things. Which do you believe you are? Search your own soul for answers, then follow your own convictions, not what is dictated to you. Q. I am studying religion right now, and I am looking for a religion that has the characteristics of many religions (such as Cao Dai or Jainism etc). Some characteristics would be no one almighty god, force or energy connection in the universe, no worship, clear explanation of beginning of time (not Adam and Eve or something). I have viewed religions such as Jainism, Cao Dai, Taoism, Buddhism, Scientology LOL, Christianity, Judaism, Sikhism, Shinto, Islam, Hinduism, Baha'i Faith, Sithism, Jedi Religion, Confucianism, Chendoism, and Gnosticism. Does the religion I am (vaguely) describing even exist??? Thanks for the help. PS: Name any other cool, interesting, crazy, weird, or funny religions you know of. (for fun) THANKS!

I got the following basic list from Adherents.com, added to it and put it in alphabetical order. I am conducting an admittedly unscientific poll, but I would like for you to: 1. State if you are Atheist, Agnostic, Deist with no ties to any group or what religion you follow. Specific denomination is preferable if you do not mind. 2. Then state if it was how you were raised or what you came to later in life. If you have changed, how old were you? For simplicity's sake, the letters R or C for the words raised or changed is sufficient. 3. On a scale of 1-5 how strongly you believe in what… [cont.]

A. It would appear that non-believers make up a significant portion of the world population and if many religouns with no theistic claims are included I believe we may be the largest of groups. Of course if we define non-belief so broadly we would probably have to group all theistic beliefs giving them the advantage. Funny how Israel has a high proportion of atheists given the fact they were formed to give a home to those of the Jewish faith. I thought Britain had more atheists than that. I love the divorce rate statistic. lol Remember, its a religious institution, not. =P I agree with Brian on the prison population, either we are better people or we are too smart to get caught.
