Religion and politics: Are there people on Yahoo who believe we should be a theocracy rather than a democracy?
Q. Should we only allow Christian Presidents? Should we only allow White Presidents? Should we only allow Presidents who hold specific cultural views and how do you square this with the constitution that says otherwise? If you believe yes, are you really Pro-America or only Pro-Your-Own-Belief-Syste m? And how would you square that with democracy? Maybe someone will give a serious answer at some point. The first 3 say otherwise. I'm with you Linda. Im a Christian dont want to live in a country that forces people to be one.

A. Yes, there are such people. In this country, we have a large number of people who display a tremendous degree of civic ignorance. I recall a survey a while back that indicated that a startling high percentage of high school students thought that the government should do more to restrict freedom of the press, and that citizens shouldn't be allowed to express unpopular opinions. It doesn't surprise me then, that there are people who don't understand the significance of the establishment clause in the first amendment since there are apparently many that don't even understand the "free speech" part of it. is the neo conservative movement, which talks about its value based christian beliefs really christian?
Q. if christian-based behavior is based on love for others and the golden rule, then wouldn't it follow that providing health care for the less fortunate, particularly the young and aged, is christian- based behavior. the only way that the neo conservative movement can do anything for anyone is to wage war on them. the way that they choose to spread democracy is by force. christian based behavior is spread by christian love. christian love is based on the golden rule. if as the bible says, god is love, godly love is based on providing loving care to the unfortunate. the president's constant affirmations of his christian beliefs and his close relationship with his god makes me wonder why his administration would balk at doing something so… [cont.]

A. I have always felt that Christians have made the textbook Faustian Bargain with the neoconservative movement. The real neoconservative agenda is about concentrating wealth and power. They have corrupted religious leaders to conflate conservative principles with religious principles for their own self-aggrandizement, their own wealth and fame. As you have observed, their real principles are diametrically opposed to those Jesus taught. Neoconservatism and the GOP bring out the very worst in people. As I like to point out, this kind of hypocrisy is just what made Jesus mad. Jesus traveled around the countryside, to villages and small towns, teaching, healing the sick, etc. for a couple of years.
